As many people who reside in the drinking capital of the World know, London banned drinking on Public Transport with effect from June 1st.
The deadline was celebrated with a massive binge by thousands of party goers on various London underground lines.

For all you Londoners out there this story was on metro.co.uk yesterday. Seems that the Tube is the place to be if you want to find love. . . .
Forget ‘misery line’ – the Northern Line should be dubbed the tunnel of love.
In a result that will no doubt add to its overcrowding, the Tube line has been found to have the sexiest passengers.
More than a third of people thought its combination of ’spiky-haired indie kids’ and ‘hot city types’ gave it the edge over other lines.

Whilst wasting time at work the other day I came across the website FractionalLife.com and thought it was an interesting concept that was worth sharing with you.
Essentially it is a kind of directory that links to other sites offering “fractional ownership” of assets. Rather than owning something yourself, you are a shareholder with a number of other people.
With the economy in the state that it is (i.e. Credit Crunch) it isn’t always worth purchasing something outright when you will not use it everyday. Or it might simply be way beyond your means but you still want to feel like you’re living the life of the super rich.

We’re all aware of the T5 and British Airways shambles of the last week or so and how their combined incompetence has left thousands of people miserable. We have a first hand account (and a justified rant) from friend of escapework.net, Sally.
Enjoy. . . .
“Yes indeed, I can safely say it was indeed first hand… We witnessed the queues of people at cash machines because, quelle une grande surprise.. they’d forgotten to set up the phone links to the card machines in the shops, the lifts not working, all the escalators going in one direction (in the convenient direction of all the super expensive shops I might add).

Whilst traveling in the classic sense has been popular since the days of the Grand Tour, it was to all intents and purposes restricted to the aristocracy, as they were the only ones who could afford such frivolities.
Since the 1960’s, the baby-boomer generation augmented the ‘Backpacking’ revolution that has been de rigueur ever since.
Indeed the stereotypes still inhabit many of the countries on route now – burek in the former Yugoslavia, banana pancakes everywhere, pies in Kathmandu and some seriously strong charas in India.
The hippy overland trail ran through Yugoslavia to the Greek islands, Turkey, some frolicking in pre-revolution Iran – Tehran hosted a pretty wild party scene by all accounts – before hopping over the Border and into poppy heaven in Afghanistan.
