Australia Eclipses the USA to become the fattest Country on Earth!!!!
So here we are……June 20th 2008 and Americans are no longer the fattest country on Earth. Did you ever think you would see the day?
Americans across the globe must be rejoicing over their Big Gulps as I type.
As of yesterday 26% of Australian’s now have a BMI greater than 30, that is, they are clinically obese. An incredible 9 million (43%) are overweight, that is they have a BMI greater than 25.
Now whilst Australia only has a population of 21 million versus 300 million in the USA, you could argue that the Yanks still lead the way in the burger stakes, however stats don’t lie and that is going to be one unhealthy burden on future tax payers….
I am not one to lay the blame, but have decided to do just that , and blame the current Rudd government. Why? …..because I can.

I’d be more inclined to think that it’s the rampant influx of porky british expats who’ve tipped the scales…

Lol, would love to know where all these ’statistics’ come from. Forgive me, but I can’t remember the last time that I or anyone I know weighed themselves and posted the results to the ABS. Methinks, the government is trying to instill paranoia about obesity so that they won’t have to dish out money in the long run, same as the smoking mania in the 90’s and the 80’s AIDS scare. What will it be next decade?? Hmmmm…..

Does this mean that Australians are as lazy as Americans?

Am inclined to agree with sweet_p with regard the trends in social paranoia though

This is bullshit, America is way fatter than Australia.

Well, I am an australian within a healthy BMI, why didn’t they get my weight?
I think you may be right about Rudd, lol…
Elohel, america has spent the last generation pretty much trying to spread its culture to the rest of the world, we have McDonalds just like you do and we are just as lazy as you are, except they just picked the wrong people to get the statistics from, thus its an inaccurate percentage, I rarely ever see anyone overweight, maybe 1 person per day out of the hundreds I see walking around or driving around.
